Where other cities are embracing the national trend toward urban living and repopulating downtowns, Pittsburgh is dipping its toes tentatively into the whole idea of Downtown living.
This year may be the tipping point, as a critical mass of ambitious developers, urban homesteaders and curious suburbanites tired of long commutes are changing the face of Downtown. About $400 million is wrapped up there in new residential and mixed-use developments, according to the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. The group sponsors the annual "Walk and Dine" tour, which pairs the latest residential developments with food by some of Downtown's top restaurants.
