Five years after entertaining its last shopper, the former Lazarus-Macy's building Downtown is greeting its first resident.
The $65 million transformation of the one-time department store into residential, retail and office space hit another milestone Monday when the first condominum buyer closed on his purchase.
The buyer, a businessman, plans to move into the $727,000 two-bedroom condo with a den and a rooftop deck next week, ushering in another phase of anticipated redevelopment Downtown.
Millcraft will have another three closings this week and two more next week. In all, it has sold about 34 of the 60 condos available in the three floors built on top of the four-story building now known as Piatt Place.
