A longtime Mt. Washington eyesore is one step closer to being transformed into a 20-story building with a luxury hotel and condominiums.
Developer Beau Beemsterboer of Chicago-based Sycamore Grandview Development plans to turn the former Edge Restaurant property into One Grandview Avenue, a 110-room luxury hotel and 50 condominiums.
City council unanimously approved a zoning change on the property Tuesday, which now sends the plans to the planning commission for final approval. Site preparation is under way on the project, which is expected to take 18 to 24 months to build, Beemsterboer said.
"It'll be an exciting project," said Councilman Doug Shields. "It certainly beats what's there now."
The estimated $90 million project will feature a 120-foot-wide public observation deck and plaza, a fine-dining restaurant, a spa, retail space and a 500-space parking garage. A public walking trail would encircle the project, and in a second phase of construction, a "Grand Staircase" would lead from Station Square to Grandview Avenue.
