Downtown living is starting to bulge out of its Golden Triangle.
Two of the newest members of the growing urban residential community are in neighborhoods not previously considered Downtown -- the Strip District and the South Side.
The Cork Factory apartment complex in the Strip recently opened its second stage, changing the look and pulse of a neighborhood once mostly a workplace. On the South Side, the St. Casimir Condos are being touted as close-yet-far from the workday hustle.

While sales at some of Pittsburgh's high-profile condominium projects have been sluggish, local developers and real estate brokers were optimistic this week that spring's arrival will jump-start interest.
A survey of a handful of condominium projects Downtown and in the city's East End found that none are close to selling out yet -- even after almost three years of marketing, in one instance.
Several condo projects are under way Downtown, including Piatt Place, a 65-unit redevelopment of the former Lazarus-Macy's department store.

In addition to Columbus, Ohio-based E.V. Bishoff Co.'s 61-unit The Carlyle condo project at Fourth Avenue and Wood Street, the firm will pursue the conversion of the adjacent Commonwealth Building into roughly 60 condominium units, company president David Bishoff said Monday.
When The Carlyle is 75 percent sold, "we will start the design and development" of the Commonwealth Building, Bishoff said.

In the first two days that reservations were being accepted for apartments in The Encore on 7th, the new high-rise on Fort Duquesne Boulevard, both penthouses had been snapped up at a price of $5,000 a month.
When the new 151 FirstSide condominium building got started, a $1.5 million penthouse was one of the first units to sell. And in the Strip District, renters are making reservations for top-of-the-line $3,700-per-month apartments.
Penthouses have been snapped up quickly since the current wave of Downtown apartment and condominium construction kicked off last year. Buyers have been plunking down serious money to jump out of their cars and ride an elevator the rest of the way home.
