Even with a faltering residential market across the country, local condominium developers are pushing ahead with some projects in unusual places.
One need look no further than a condo project on Greenfield Avenue to see how the condo craze has spread from Pittsburgh's affluent neighborhoods to those still untested, including Greenfield, Downtown and East Liberty.
Last year, Mike Brennan, president of Brennan Capital, paid $85,000 for the vacant three-story building at 537 Greenfield Ave.

While sales at some of Pittsburgh's high-profile condominium projects have been sluggish, local developers and real estate brokers were optimistic this week that spring's arrival will jump-start interest.
A survey of a handful of condominium projects Downtown and in the city's East End found that none are close to selling out yet -- even after almost three years of marketing, in one instance.
Several condo projects are under way Downtown, including Piatt Place, a 65-unit redevelopment of the former Lazarus-Macy's department store.

Crossgates Realty Inc. and Howard Hanna Real Estate Services broke ground Wednesday on The Lofts on Baum, a new building of 30 condominiums at 5848 Baum Blvd. in East Liberty.
Designed in brick and glass, the eight-story building will have six one-bedroom condos and 24 two-bedroom condos, selling from $189,900 to the low $400,000s.
